Three Kings and Five Emperors settled morality

But the fame settled in post-Xia dynasties Shang and Zhou

Seven Warring states and five hegemons fight over Spring and Autumn

In an instant turn of hand they rise and fall and go

Sparing lines of names carved in bamboo slips of history

Barren hills of north Mangshan mountain bury countless bodies

The forebearer’s land the successor harvests

Why speak still of tigers and dragons and ancient rivals
